Message from our new President - Stu Sims
Apparently I didn’t step backwards quickly enough because somehow I have been named President of MDPA for 2023.
I have somewhere more than 5000 hours in a variety of personally owned airplanes including a Cherokee 180 and several Cessna T210s. I am currently flying a Columbia 400.
My flying experience began in 1978 on the east coast in real weather, before “lettered airspace” and at a time when you could still get an FAA Employee/Examiner to give you a check ride (for free). I have landed in 47 of the lower 48 states (still missing Delaware), Washington DC, the Bahamas and a few of the Canadian Provinces.

I have a few ideas for the coming year including restarting monthly flyouts, reaching out to the pilot community flying out of Concord and Byron to encourage more membership, and adding to the kitchen crew. We also need more people to talk about their flying experiences at our monthly meetings. To that end, I hope to continue our safety sessions and enhance our “Stupid Pilot Trick/IFAFFT” section.
For January we will precede our regular seminar with one or perhaps two people talking about something they have “learned” recently. You can bring up something personal, or something you witnessed. The experiences should be personal or second person - something you did, or watched someone do.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone on the 7th.
